New All Ages Venue for Brisbane

Will has been putting on punk hardcore shows on in Brisbane for sometime now. He not only has started a blog to help promote his shows (slightly legitimatising himself), he has also organised a new venue in Brisbane for underage shows. Friday the 26th of March will see the launch of “Burst City”. 69 Grey Street, South Brisbane (across from the museum) with Sucio Ponder from Melbourne, Teargas (Will’s band), One Shot Salute and Sexual Chocolate.

Now let me break this down for everyone. This is a new venue that hasn’t had shows before. Some people try hard to find suitable venues to put shows on for the kids who generally enjoy the music, people like Will. It’s getting harder for promoters to have all ages shows in Brisbane because people do not respect the venues. But then they complain when they’re favorite bands come through and only play an 18+ show because there wasn’t a suitable venue. So don’t show up with a shit attitude because you’ll only be hurting yourself.

Currently there is only really one good and consistent AA venue in Brisbane and that is The Fort in Fortitude Valley, and that costs a bit of money to hire out. There are a few other venues that get used from time to time but that’s it. The list of All Ages venues is continually growing. In resent history there has been Legions Hall (shut down for liquor licensing issues), Ahimsa House & Kurilpa Warehouse (no idea what happened here), Top Floor (shut down for fire safety issues), Princess Theatre (?) and the Hi-Fi Bar isn’t doing underage shows anymore. These have all been in the last 18 months or so as well. It would be great not to add another one to the list.
