Carve

Being Halloween last weekend, there was the usual spooky themed get ups and what not. My girlfriend and her housemates decided to have a party and decorate their place.

One thing that was want was some Jack O’ Lanterns (carved pumpkins). You can’t really use the normal pumpkins in Australia, too thick. So a couple of weeks ago, we find some American pumpkins at the Brisbane Markets and just put them aside until Halloween.

Firstly cutting the top open and cleaning out the inside. This wasn’t that great. Mostly just annoyed me. Trying to clean out the stringy bits of pumpkin flesh and the seeds with pumpkin juice on you hands isn’t that entertaining to me. Seemed to move slowly but got it down. I was wanted to carve them.

This was difficult. Too thick for a standard scalpel, too fine for a kitchen knife. You start to figure out a few tricks to help the carving process also. I choose to make one of Hannibal Lecter.
