The events of Thursday night, the 27th of August 2009.

A group of us fixed gear riders in Brisbane go on a casual ride from Fortitude Valley then around New Farm, Floating walkway, City then around South Bank. I didn’t make it that far.

Coming down in to New Farm at a round about, a car came from nowhere on the right going straight through to the left. 3 of us had to brake suddenly to avoid the car. I got cut off by the rider in front a squeezed my front brakes in a panic to hard and went over the front of my bike.

I laid there for about 30 seconds thinking that wasn’t pleasant and tried to lift myself up only to not move. Awesome. Stinging started in the side of my face, left wrist was hurting a bit but could still move my fingers and wrist. The rest of the guys stopped and helped me out, made sure I was okay. I was starting to make jokes about the situation.

Eventually I came to the conclusion my night of riding was over and I should go get looked at after my wrist was severely swollen and was in a bit of pain. One of the guys called me a cab and rest threw in some small change for me to get a cab back to West End where my car was. I rang my girlfriend and asked her to meet me there and then go to the hospital. And to bring her camera.

img_0237.jpg Once getting into the emergency room, walking up to the check-in, bleeding from multiple cuts from my face and using my hoodie as a sling, I am given a raffle ticket from the lady and told a nurse will call my number when she is up to me. I go into the toilets to clean up my face as best as I can and go sit down. Also, there was a guy in the waiting room with a sweet xXx tattoo on the back of his neck Vin Diesel style.

img_0238.jpg I get called through in about 30 minutes which was reassemble I thought. Nurse has a look at my injuries and gives me some panadine. I am lead through to where some doctors are and get examined. After about 2 doctors and and small regiment of nurses, I am given a piece of paper to get x-rays of my left fore arm and right shoulder. After the pictures of my bones are taken, the guy running the x-rays asks me if I can point out the fracture before him. I think it was the bold white line on my bone that give it away for the quick victory.

img_0240.jpg Back to the room with the doctors with a diagnosis of a distal radius impacted fracture, they start sticking me with IV needles. I think at this stage the shock was wearing off and start to feel nauseous and go over to the sink. Didn’t make it halfway and I am almost falling over, so I decided the bed was a much better place to be. I remember some nurses coming over to help the doctor and ask her why I was so pale, I was a little too out of it to be a smart ass. Next was the morphine.

Fuck morphine. All the shit did was make me retardedly tired but I couldn’t sleep. Not much pain relief that night and a sweet headache all of the following day.

img_0244.jpg They let my mum and girlfriend in at this stage to keep me company, which was nice of them. I had someone to talk at least. My pulse continually kept on dropping so the machine I was connected to kept on telling me so. Thank you.

After a while a group of doctors come over to put me under and try to get my wrist back to something close normal. I wake up with a cast on my arm and a doctor telling me it didn’t work. I’m still really groggy and tell them get my mum or girlfriend because they would understand them better at the moment.

img_0245.jpg Turns I need to see and specialist and have possible surgery to get my wrist back to normal. So I have that to look forward too.

Big thanks to all guys on the ride Thursday night who helped me out. Bex for looking after my stupid ass and putting up with my restlessness. My mum for coming to get me from the hospital. And anyone who has sent me a message telling me to get better and whatnot.

Sorry to my Marathon band mates. We were meant to play some shows in the next few weeks and record some more demo songs. Looks like I fucked that one up.

More to come.
